The first installation, a bifur-
cated surface main fan station, 
has been commissioned at coal miner Anglo Coal’s Zondags-fontein colliery, near Ogies, in Mpumalanga. The contract, awarded in 2008, includes two axial flow Howden fans.

The installation includes all structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design and specifications, all steel ducting, buildings, fan mechanicals, electric drives, instrumentation and control systems. 
BBE adds that noise emitted by the fan stations is also well below strict design criteria.

The second installation cable duct was commissioned at platinum-mining company Lonmin Platinum’s Saffy Shaft, in the North West province, and included earthworks and civils, building works, ducting and mechanicals and electrical equipment, as well as instru
mentation and control for a trifurcated fan station. 
BBE replaced two temporary fans cable trunking on the shaft with two permanent centrifugal fans, and installed ducting, which makes provision for a third fan or an emergency diesel standby fan.
