A CABLE company has given its support to a campaign aimed at securing jobs in the construction sector.
Cable and cable trunking trunking specialist D-Line has given its backing to Repairing Britain, which aims to secure 250,000 jobs in the construction industry at risk during the recession by campaigning for lower VAT on property repairs and maintenance. The campaign, which is funded and headed by Rok plc and supported by a number of leading industry organisations, is calling on the Government to reduce VAT on property repairs to five per cent.
Newcastle-based D-Line, launched in 2005, serves the electrical, plumbing, flooring and DIY sectors, manufacturing surface slotted pvc trunking products used to secure and hide wiring and pipes, cable duct preventing the need to lift floors or insert wall channels.
As part of its support of Repairing Britain, D-Line will be encouraging its employees, distributors, customers and contacts to sign the campaign’s petition on the Downing Street website, Paul Ruddick, director of D-Line, said: “Reducing VAT would make a considerable difference to our business and those of our distributors who work closely with private and commercial clients who are undertaking refurbishment and upgrade projects.”
