McLaren have finally revealed that real name of their ‘f-duct’ system.
Dubbed the ‘f-duct’ because of the shape of the opening, the system, which stalls air flow to the rear wing, gives McLaren’s MP4-25 an plastic channels estimated 6mph speed wire duct advantage down the straights, prompting the team’s rivals to adopt their own systems.
But while their rivals were furiously coping their ‘f-duct’, for some unknown reason McLaren opted to keep the real name of the system a secret – at least until now.
BBC Radio 5 live pit-lane reporter Holly Samos revealed in Shanghai: “Officially, within McLaren, the name for the F-duct, or rear wing stalling device, or whatever cable trunking we call it, is the RW80.”
